Hi All,
Has anyone ever recieved text messages from "07790297752" with something similar to :
"Records passed to us show that you're entitled to a refund of approximately £2560 in compensation from mis-selling of PPI on your credit card or loan. Reply INFO or STOP"
Part of me is tempted to "challenge" some of these companies to see if I am able to reclaim anything, however, I dont think it is something I have ever had on any of my loans or cards.
Should I go for it, with a nothing to lose attitude? If so, what is the best way to do this? Just use of the companies advertised on TV?
Thanks

Its a scam. Everyone gets them whether they have PPI or not.however, I dont think it is something I have ever had on any of my loans or cards.

Are you asking us if you should put in a fraudulent complaint to try and obtain funds unlawfully?I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). certainly not
whatI am asking is that - even though I am unsure if i ever had PPI - do I have a right to complain / appeal?
One company who called me advised that - the reason people are allowed to appeal the PPI, is that they were not sure they had it in the first place - thats why it was mis-sold. Now, I'm not sure if that is just salesman patter to get me to sign up.
That is why I am on here asking fellow MSE'ers for advice0 -

What is your reason for complaint? One company who called me advised that - the reason people are allowed to appeal the PPI, is that they were not sure they had it in the first place - thats why it was mis-sold.
Theoretically, that is possible. However, it is equally possible that it was done correctly and you forgot. It isnt an easy reason to prove and with many times of PPI it could be easy to reject that complaint reason. Although you would think that on say a credit card where a PPI entry would appear each month you dont clear the balance, you would be able to spot it easily and complaining you didnt know you had it would be an embarrasing complaint to make. If you dont have it then it wont appear there. Its not hidden. You cant miss it if you have it.
Loans are done at point of sale. You should be able to tell as your monthly payments would be higher than those without PPI. So, if you cannot remember the conversation where you agreed to it, you should be able to remember if your monthly loan payment is higher than you thought it was going to be. Plus, it appears on your paperwork. So, you only have to look at that. Now, I'm not sure if that is just salesman patter to get me to sign up.
The claims companies will tell you anything to get you to use them. Their sales reps are paid to get referrals. I'm an IFA and have been told by them I can complain. I have had many cold calls, like everyone (plus I am on TPS) and not one claims company cold call has been compliant with the ministry of justice rules and all have told me a bunch of lies. That is why I am on here asking fellow MSE'ers for advice
If you have grounds for complaint then you complain. If you dont then you dont.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). How can you complain about something unless you had it?One company who called me advised that - the reason people are allowed to appeal the PPI, is that they were not sure they had it in the first place - thats why it was mis-sold.

Of course it is.
If you believe otherwise please send me a cheque for £1,000 and I will take the bank details before I cash it and then place £1,000,000 in your bank account.
I can do this because I am a bona fide member of the Royal Family of Bongobongoland and need to get my money out following a military coup.0 -
Its a scam like the accident claim texts I receive on a regular basis. They probably only need 1 person out of a 100 to respond, hence flooding everyone with texts.0

I believe that if you do reply to the text in anyway (whether that be 'INFO' or 'STOP') it will encourage the company to send you even more texts, as you basically confirmed to them your phone number is active.
just ignore...and if you do think you have had PPI unfairly sold to you, put in a complaint yourself...its free, bar the price of a stamp, paper and envelope!!!!.
the companies advertised on TV are no different...do it yourself0 -
You need to find any agreements for loans that may have had ppi on,if you have any, look here for reasons for mis sell
http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/reclaim/ppi-loan-insurance#step2
If any/all apply to you then put a claim in.
With credit cards this is a monthly payment showing on your statements.0
