Remote Control for Roller Shutter

Hi,
Wasn't sure whether to post this here or the Techie forum so please move mods if it's in the wrong place.
At my workplace we have a car park with a roller shutter door opened by remote control. The company is not able to provide me a remote, which means I have to risk a parking ticket every morning by parking outside on double yellows and walking round to open the door manually with the switch inside the car park.
A few weeks ago I saw a universal "learning" RF car park remote control for £6 on ebay which can be programmed with an existing remote.
For love nor money, I can't find this any more and am running out of ideas. I know the company provided remotes are supplied pre-programmed at vast cost.
Does anyone know if it is likely a cheapo chinese unit is likely to work? If it would help I can try to find out the manufacturer of the shutter but it is fairly old so presume it just works by RF.
Thanks for any advice

Perhaps they don't want you to have a remote? Better check with them if you can source your own, some company's might see this as a serious breach of security.0

It only "learns" the remote supplied with it, that will then work on the little receiver board in the kit. The receiver board can then learn other remotes of the same type you can buy from them.
The chinese remote won't learn the works remote and then work the door at work.
The works ones should be a rolling code, ie it changes each time, and the receiver board at work will know what codes are valid. The works receiver will need new remotes pairing with it, and that's probably why it's so dear.0 -
You can always try calling an expert on RF controls - if you can get a look at the make of the remote control system. I'm sure you could phone up the manufacturer and ask them for some info on where ot buy a fob and how to pair it into the shutter. In my experience this is normally quite straight foward. If not then try search RS components for the manufacturer and see if they sell them. Failing that, try thr Garage Door Guru on ebay...

id imagine if they dont want to give you a remote they will not be happy to discovered you have cloned a remote for the gate you should ask if they object to you having one or if its simply a case of they dont want to spend the money on another remote0
