thanks for your reply & don't take this the wrong way, but the safest area in the world can still house a loony who decides they want to break in & kill you.
Ok i'm being extreme, but i think you see my point. It doesn't matter how safe a safe place is - it only takes 1 nutter. How many times have we seen on the news "...and this is such a quiet place too..."?

I'm sorry, but I think that's excessive paranoia. The chances of being attacked by a "nutter" in the home are extremely low. A "nutter" is unlikely to be deterred by a CCTV system, which is more to deter vandalism, anti-social behaviour, problem neighbours or to protect unusually valuable contents.

Where do you stop? You may be attacked by a crazy while walking to the shops or on the bus etc.

Better to take reasonable precautions and not worry too much about unlikely possibilities you can do little to prevent.

  • I'd have to say the CCTV is a bit extreme however if there's a high level of anti-social behaviour around which can lead to property damage then it could be of use.

When we moved into a rented house last year, it got broken into two days before we moved in. It was done at night, lighting is poor an no one overlooks the window. They must have spent about half an hour breaking the window to find the place empty.

We (the landlord) got the window replaced with a better one as it's a vulnerable spot ad the old window was clearly a cheapo.

We bought a £150 wireless alarm and fitted that ourselves, which although won't get a police response, will wake us in the night (we arm just the down stairs).

The landlord even installed security shutters on the ground floor. We close them when we're not in or at night. It does give a good sense of security although my GF thinks it's like being in a prison.

It seems CCTV possibly won't stopped you getting robbed (i agree with the drug dealer comment on this one) but you can't put a price on a good nights sleep.

you will need to display signs on your property to advise the public you are recording (easily available)

Under what law/rule or regulation? There is no requirement for signs for CCTV when protecting a domestic property even when overlooking other property.
