Question.

We have two lines ie two phone numbers in the house - one for me plus one for office - Mr F works from home. I think I will have my line taken away and just have mobile. Do you pay to have a line taken away/out/disconnected?

No. BT won't take it away - they will just disconnect it so it stops working.

You just have to give the required notice. Presumably your broadband is on the other line?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Have you considered BT Callsign to maintain 2 numbers (and 2 ring tones so you can tell which number is being called) at considerably reduced cost?

Or, perhaps better still, a VoIP number on the remaining line (broadband)?
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

Yes - the broad band is on Mr F's line.

Mr F has long calls on his line - reason we had the second one put in when we married. I just thought - why pay for a line etc when I could get a Sim only deal cheaper.
