EoN - Plan Renewal and DD charges

MY EoN Save Online 4 tariff finishes on 15 Jan. EoN have notified me that they will switch me to their Energy Online tariff which appears will cost me approx £120 more.

Having gone onto Uswitch EoN have their Save Online 11 tariff which will save me £17.

Why do they not offer the best deal? Is this blatant opportunism on their part hoping I don't check?

In addition they recently increased my DD by 23%. With the credit balance currently in place and 12 months at the increased DD it will mean that I pay them £450 more than I need to over the year.

Switch I hear you say but they have the cheapest deal apart from First Utility - a company I know nothing about - but who can save me a further £100. I am looking for feedback on their performance.

  • Does the letter not advise you to also check your online account for more tariffs that are available? Normally when a contract finishes you are transferred to the standard online tariff which has no cancellation fee.

Yes its annoying but it sems to be their practice to switch to a standard tariff when the tariff you are on comes to an end. They will do that if you do nothing about it.

Do what I did a couple of months ago. Ring 'em up and say do you want to lose my business why can't I be on (in your case) Saveonline 11. No probs they will say and they will switch you over there and then if you say yes. Oh and computer will then recalculate your DD. Mine stayed the same even with the recent price increases. It turned out that I couldn't get a better deal by switching so I'm happy but unhappy that they made me work for it..

I queried why I couldn't have been offered the cheapest in the first place and got some sort of guff about "with so many customers contracts coming to an end on an almost daily basis its easier for us just to tell you that we will switch you to X and then you have the choice to change it to something else if you don't like it". Obviously too difficult to tailor the offer to the individual - steam driven computers huh?

  • Hi keystone,

if you login to your online account there is an option to change tariffs. It shows you your current rates and the other tariffs on offer. You can then change via the website without having to ring up.

Yes I realise that now but I rang up in high dudgeon after receiving the letter with a more expensive tariff and a DD increase on top of the price rise when my usage over this year has actually gone down. Sounds like they need to redraft their standard letters to me.

    Cheers

None of the power companies can proactively offer their cheapest tariffs, that is why you get the letter advising at end of current tariff, you will go on the standard rate, with the invitation to call in and discuss alternate tariffs if you do not want to go on standard, or to go on the companies website and make a tariff change yourself. You cannot avoid this practice with any of the power co's as it is an OFGEM reg.

    Hi BROSSY,

I think is was mentioned in the thread, but we can't just automatically change you on to the SaveOnline 11 tariff as this is a contract tariff with a cancellation fee.

We can only automatically switch to you a non contractual tariff.

You can go on to your online account and use the switch now link this will give you a list of the tariffs that you can change to and the details, you can also change your tariff this way.

Or give us a ring or email, we will happily go through the tariffs that would be best for you.

Hope this explains things a little.
