Car Insurance Raised due to accidental claim - Is this fair / allowed!!
Hi there,
my partner (30, with 12 years driving experience) had a small accident on black ice, but which was enough to write off our car. He made a claim online as it was a sunday and swift cover were closed.
He had forgotten that when adding me to the policy, (I am a new driver - 25), the policy was changed from fully comp to third party fire and theft. Therefore we were not covered. Which wasn't the end of the world as the car did not have a high value.
However it seems despite no claim actually being persued and the claim essentially being a mistake, the insurance company are giving insanely high quotes for insurance on a smaller, lower value car.
Can any one help as to whether this is allowed or any challenges i can make.
Many Thanks

This is correct as you have had an accident in the last year you are statistically more likely to be involved in another accident, sorry but HTH.0

basically you declaired an accident, prmium will rise due to fault, this will have to be recorded for 3-5 depending on insurer as your essentially on record now as having declaired a fault accident within 5 years. no good not declairing it next year as will be on record and the insurers can check this.0

Although (unfortunately) the above is correct you may need to check how the "claim" has been recorded. As the insurer did not make any payment it should be recorded as a "No Fault" claim. It should only be recorded as a "Fault" claim if the insurer has made a payment. This is correct as you have had an accident in the last year you are statistically more likely to be involved in another accident, sorry but HTH.
It may not make much difference as about 6 years ago we had a "No Fault" claim but IIRC the premium only went up by about 10 to 15% - blame the statistics!0
