Recycling bin Problem

My council has supplied us with wheelie bins - one for recycling and one normal. They collect each week, one week normal, next recycling. My problem is that I have a multi fuel stove as my main heating source and it creates mountains of ashes. We have to let the ash cool in a metal bin then put it into the main bin. This takes approx half the capacity of my wheelie bin each fortnight and so we havent got enough room left for all our rubbish. I do as much recycling as poss, and I still cant cope. The council say we cant have a larger bin as our family isnt over 4 people and its not their policy to let people buy larger bins. I keep getting passed from department to department and I cant get anyone to help me. In the meantime, the ash is accumulating!! Has anyone any bright ideas? I dont know what to do.:(

I'd have a word with your local councillor and point out your problem, , where I live the council have adopted the same system that starts in march, i think most stuff can be recycled.
you could always dig a hole in your garden and bury it:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:0 -
I have similar problem. That is more rubbish that the minuscule council bin will hold despite recycling everything I can. I often end up burning rubbish to get rid of it but am fortunate to live somewhere where this is possible. What on earth they expect you to do is beyond me.0

The local allotment community might find a use for it. Layering on the compost heap or using around established plants perhaps. It would depend on what you have been burning. They might be interested in collecting it if it is useful to them.
Check out 'allotments' on t'internet or contact your council.0 -
Do you have a neighbour who wouldn't mind you using their bin?
One of my neighbours is a guy who lives alone and he doesn't have as much rubbish as us 3, so we asked him if we could use his bin, and as a thanks we give it (and his driveway) a good clean with the pressure washer every so often (not at the mo though, brrrr!:D)
Or you could run out in the dead of night and just shove it in someone else's bin!
Only joking! 0 -
phone the council up to get a new bin and just fib that you have got 4 + people in your household.
We had to do this as it was a 5+ household for the larger bins we only have 4 humans.
I got so fed up with full buckets and having to put the recycle stuff into the ordinary bins that i called and just used the cat ( well he is called SAM) as the 5 th person,
Fantaqstic now as i can recycle properly now0 -
Thanks guys, its good to know its not just me. Ive phoned my councillor today so finers crossed. We have two cats, two gerbils and five goldfish so surely one of them counts lol0
