Heat recovery unit for condensation

Hi, I just wondered if anyone has any experience of a heat recovery unit to cure a condensation problem. I've been offered this system at a cost of £650 for a small studio flat but haven't been able to find much unbiased information about it (most of the info is on the websites of those who sell the systems). I'm interested in knowing whether it works, and if it's worth paying the extra rather than just having air bricks installed, also whether it makes much noise - it would be put into the main room where I sleep so I'm concerned that this may have a impact. Any advice would be appreciated.
