DLA Payment?

Hi
I got awarded DLA today.
I was told i would get a back payment also.

Ive never claimed any benefits before so i dont really know how it works.

I know ive given my bank details so it will be paid into my bank but when will i get payment?

It doesnt say anywhere on the letter.

TIA

  • You'll probably get another letter telling you the payment is going in. Probably within two weeks (but don't spend it until it arrives!)

You wont get it for a while yet, you will get a form asking about hospitalsations in the period covered by the back payment, it will also ask you to give the bank details agin andso it can take a good six weeks till you get the money after the appeal is granted (and the tribunal service take at least a week if not two before the DWP recieve the appeal paperwork but you can ring them and they will give you a fax no. to send your copy of the appeal notice too but nothing will happen till they get the offical paperwork anyway)

this is what has just happened to us today! Haven't had a letter yet, but the money was there when I logged on tonight. I am assuming that is the back payment going on amount and possible rate he was awarded, but hope the letter doesn't take too long to follow so I know for sure! I was so shocked to see it there as I just had a letter Saturday saying 'sorry you haven't had a decision yet, etc.'

Thats a very diffrent senario, the OP was awarded it today which means at an appeal hearing which takes much longer than a paper claim so more paperwork is needed.

it takes up to 15 months at present for an appeal to be heard and a maximum of 12 weeks for a paper claim, thats why they need to double check things like hospital admissions etc. before the back money is paid.

I went to appeal with a friend recently, my own awards are a totally diffrent things as mine are" a open and shut case", my friend was the current "bad back" of anxiety and depression so she had to go to appeal and it was my first experiance of a disputed claim.
  • I was paid my backdated claim within 2 weeks of the appeal hearing with no other queries raised by DWP.

What was the timeframe from your initial application and were you claiming means tested benefits at the time?
