6 Years Limit

Hi all,

Just a quick question, does the 6 years back claiming apply to the date of the charge or as with loans and PPI the date the account was closed.

There is no 6 year limit as such.

There are two areas where 6 years may apply.
1 - data is often destroyed after 6 years. So, if you are complaining about something that took place over 6 years ago, then there is a chance the documentation may no longer exist. The further back you go, the more likely this is as.
2 - The 3 year/6 year complaint rule. You have 6 years from the event or 3 years from being reasonably aware that you could complain (latter takes priority over former) to put your complaint in.

You dont say what your complaint is about but it is either bank charges or credit card charges. Credit card providers do tend to destroy statement information quickly (6 years). Bank charges is largely a dead issue now with banks no longer refunding unless its hardship cases or goodwill (neither likely to be applicable to charges taken over 6 years ago).
