Cats in a leasehold

My partner owns a leasehold on a groundfloor apartment managed by mainstay, he recieved a letter from mainstay reminding him that keeping pets was against his lease agreement.
He has lived there with 2 cats for 3 years (from new) and has never had a single complaint about the cats, they dont meow, he has no immediate neighbors as he is inbetween the enterance and a service room and there is no odor because he is seriously house proud and bleaches everyday (does my head in).
I've told him to ignore the letter as it looks like a general letter that may have been sent to every resident, but if mainstay do pursist what are the chances of mainstay agreeing that they are no nuisence to anyone and allowing him to keep the cats?
has anyone dealt with mainstay and cats before?

It is a breach of lease. Some people may have allergy to cats. Contact Leasehold Advisory Service and speak to one of their advisers free on 02073839800 and find what he can do. They are v good with advice.
I live in flat where we r not allowed pets. But I d like to have a cat to chase the mice here. Where there are cats mice is cleared."I'll be back."0 -
Unless the cats are always inside the property you can not know if they are annoying anyone.0

I agree. I have enough problems with cats defecating in the garden, scratching up plants, trying to catch the fish in my pond etc. Nothing but a nuisance.Solar install June 2022, Bath

The apartment has a seperate private courtyard, but the cats aren't allowed out as its off a busy road and im scared they might jump the fence onto the road, the only way people could know about the cats is because one loves to sit in the window and watch people wlaking by.0 -
We're not supposed to have pets in our development either (I think it's the case with the majority of leaseholds), however since we also own the freehold we take the view that as long as they are "quiet" pets, aren't left to roam the staircases so basically aren't a nuisance, then there's no problems so I guess it all depends on how reasonable people decide to be. There's quite a few of us with cats (I've been there nearly 13 years) and it's never been an issue. Mine do go out on my terrace but I've made sure they can't wander next door from there. Now free from the incompetence of vodafail0
