Past Times Middlesbrough 50% off everything

Past Times in Middlesbrough is closing down and there is 70% of books, xmas-themed stuff and Downton Abbey stuff and 50% off everything else. They were even selling the (rather nice) display tables and cabinets. Sales assistant said "they are not the only store closing down" but did not have details of which others are to shut.

The Freeport Talke one was closing over the weekend too.
  • Apparently there's only going to be 3 Scottish stores left after today, according to staff in one of the outlet shops. Dundee is one and I think St Enoch's might have been another...

  • They are trying to save the company and find a buyer but looks likely they will also enter administration:(

I always thought they had some nice products but were very expensive for what they were.

I never actually purchased anything from them.

It was one of the few stores that has a healthy flow of customers at the till, altho most of them looked 65 or older. There were about ten shoppers in the tiny Accessorise, but no one took anything to the till, even Primark only had three tills open and no queue (some amazing reductions in there). I guess we just dont have the cash to flash!
  • One opened in the Autumn in Keighley as a "temporary seasonal" shop. Big sales there also but I don't know if it's still open as not been into town for a few days. The ones in Skipton and York always seem busy, year round, but they do get quite a lot of tourists there. Some lovely gifts but I'm afraid I only bought in there when the sale was on as, like others, I found it just too expensive. It would be a shame to see the chain go altogether though.

We had a temporary store open in Hastings a few weeks before Christmas, even when the store opened it run an up to 50% off promotion. (most things were 50% off with a handful of 25% - 30%).
I found a beautiful double heart photo frame that i had in mind for my husbands Nanna (she's quite hard to buy for) i was told by store staff that i could only exchange if she didnt like it not get my money back so i left it.
I would hate for her to be stuck with something she didnt like.

  • I've loved this shop since I was in my 20s. I think the stuff is lovely. I didn't realise it was thought of as a pensioners shop. What does that say about me? :oicon7.gif
