MegaTrain from London to Crewe? (Or anywhere near Manchester)

I'm looking to get up to Manchester, but I'm now an old man and my last ever 16-25 railcard has expired :'(... looking at train fares, they're more than a flight would cost!

Based on this map from the MSE site I thought I could maybe get a Mega Train somewhere near by; Crewe, Runcorn maybe...

But on the megabus website, it gives me the option to search for London-Crewe and some dates, but comes up with nothing.... Have they stopped this route does anyone know?

Just buy advance tickets on a train website, they're cheap especially in the quietest parts of the day

There are megatrain departures from London to Crewe - certainly on the 2107 ex Euston. For some reason nothing back though

Remember they don't run every day (no weekend service is common) and that they are released rather later than normal train tickets

As well as the above, consider a cheap Advance Single across the Pennines to Sheffield, then Megatrain south from there.
  • thanks for the tip... i'm looking for the weekend of february 3rd, but if there's no megatrains on weekends that explains it :/
  • You could try London Midland instead of Virgin direct to Crewe, takes longer but their advance fares are pretty cheap

I hope the megatrain service doesn't run as late as your post, the OP was travelling in February :rotfl:
