Ending Sky - can I get a TV signal through the Satalite??

Options
Please excuse me for being dumb - I am female and don't understand technology!!!!

I am currently with Sky - but plan on ending my subscription with them asap. Before Sky, I used to plus my tv into the wall via the Aerial onto of the roof.

Since then, digital tv has taken over - so my question is will I be able to watch tv when I cancel SKY, or will I need to invest in a digital aerial? Or can i route the tv through the satalite dish to pick up a signal? I do have freeview intergrated into my tv if this is relevant.

Thank you in anticipation of your replies x

Your existing sky box will continue to work for all the "free" channels , i.e. ones not in their subscription packages. But if its a Sky+ box you will not be able to record anything unless you pay SKy for the privilige.

If you want recording functions, you can buy a Freesat PVR and just swap that with your Sky box.

The aerial on the roof may/may not recieve an adequate signal to receive Freeview channels .... there is no such thing as a Digital Aerial. If your TV has Freeview integrated into it , you can connect it to the aerial socket and scan for channels ... see what it picks up.

on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
    10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
    20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)

As already said the Sky box or a Sky+ box will work fine to watch the free channels, just take the card out. If you have a Sky+ box and want to record, pause etc you can pay £10.25 a month to Sky to enable these but still only get the free channels.

Freeview is transmitted via terrestrial aerials and does not involve a satellite dish.

Freesat is transmitted via satellite. Your Sky dish should receive it.

My Sky dish feeds two cables to my Sky+ box and a third cable to my TV with built in Freesat.

Both Freeview and Freesat require a suitable TV or a separate box to decode the signals.

Your TV has built in Freeview. Try connecting it to your existing aerial and see what happens. You may or may not get decent reception.

If you get decent reception then fine.

If not you can either invest in a new aerial that will receive Freeview (if available in your area), use your existing Sky box for free channels only or buy an inexpensive Freesat box and watch those channels.

Google for the various channels available on the three options.

Is it not still connected to the wall ? (possibly from the wall socket to the Sky box RFin and then from RF1/2 out into the TV). The TV should still be able to use that at least and just press 1 (or 2 or 3 etc) from the TV remote ???

just leave tv connected to sky,you will recieve freesat without any recording free of charge.
if you want to record best to buy a humax box and connect to the twin leeds that were used for sky
