Do these "electronic" debit cards have embossed numbers ? One obvious characteristic of Visa Electron cards is the lack of embossed numbers to prevent them being used with a card imprinter.
Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks
On a rotating plate, with spikes like Flash Gordon
And you're Peter Duncan; I gave you fair warning

Yes, I believe all Visa Debit cards have raised numbers (all of which I've seen). The only way to check seems to be the mag stripe or the conventional way.

My Santander Visa Debit isn't embossed.

I prefer it that way, it doesn't make sense anyway that online cards can get imprints. Plus it helps you to determine the type of card you have, rather than having to check the BIN or run it through yourself.

Visa Electron is being discontinued and is replaced by Visa Debit.

This is not true. If a bank chooses to change their cards to visa debit that is a business decision, Visa Electron is one of the most widely issued cards in Europe and Asia, Visa are not discontinuing it.

With regards to your Halifax account. If you have and Easycash account then you will receive a visa electron. Otherwise you will get a visa debit.

I have a relative with a newly issued debit card with an EasyCash account and they got a Visa Debit card.

mmm...I'm wondering if it would be worth just popping into my local Halifax and asking exactly what card I'd get with an Easycash as they seem to be making it up as they go along :rotfl:

    Just been on Halifax website...

    "
You won't be able to open an account if:
    • You are not a resident in the UK
    • A bankruptcy order has been made against you
    • You have entered into a voluntary arrangement, administration order or interim arrangements."...
Does this mean if you already have a DMP (Debt Management Plan) you won't be able to open an Easycash account? :(
