Do you have crime reference numbers for both burglaries?? If not request them from Police. If there decline, repeat request IN WRITING (keep copy).
Was the property damaged & have you informed the landlord (hopefully in writing??).
Did you make any repairs yourself to the property??
What/how has the break-in affected being able to pay rent?? (eg did you have to spend more to fix a door, window, whatever??)0 -
Thank you for a quick reply.
My windows been smashed twice, housing replaced them just on friday last week. There is no proper security, its easy accses to my windows still, if anybody will want to break in again. Im scared to leave mu flat, worried that it will happened again while im at work.
I do have two ref numbers, police got a guy, he will be sentenced on 1st Feb.
I was off work since 15th Dec, dont get paid for time being off work, dont have any savings, my wage from december was minimum, not enough to pay for rent.
Back at work now, but housing asking for dec rent. Dont know what to do. How can i get my things back or who to speak to about compensation or anything really. Got no family or relatives. Its all been in papers T&A.

Why do you think it was burgled a second time?
Was it to steal stuff that was left behind the first time?
Burglars often return to what they regard as a soft target about six weeks later when they judge the occupant will have replaced the items with shiny new things.
With this in mind, I wouldn't replace anything for a while, even if you can raise the money.0 -
Just seen your post about the police nicking someone.
The police should approach you before the sentencing hearing to get a victim impact statement.
You can also ask the court to make a compensation order in your favour against the burglar.
Worth doing, but burglars are often unable or unwilling to comply with such orders, so you may have trouble enforcing it.0 -
First time round he took mainly elect. stuff. Secont time he took everything else.....silver,perfumes....even my cosmetics. Got just furniture left really. Coming back from work to empty, scary house.

I don't know if this would work, but when he is found guilty why not sue him for the amount of your losses in the civil court. It should be a walkover, then you would be able to enforce it just like any other debt0

I think you need to talk to the Housing Association and explain matters. They may then allow you to pay extra in the forthcoming months for the shortfall. To be honest, I wouldn't hold your breath about getting any money out of the culprit though...0

I am aware of possibility of monthly installments with housing, unfortunately i am sorting other debts as well.
I have got just right amount of money to pay for previous debts as i am paying them in monthly installments. All that has been sorted for me through Citizen Advice B.
I am on a very tight budget, which doesn't leave me anything to pay with.0 -
your rent/council tax is a priority debt. they must come first.0

I'm curious to know what else you think the police could have done to help you?
You've been given two crime numbers which suggests that both offences have been crimed and in addition they have caught a suspect who has been arrested and charged. There's a possibility they could have arranged for the flat to be boarded up depending on when the offences took place, but that might have been better left to the HA to do. You said you don't have insurance and you say you can't pay the rent, neither of which the police can help with.0
