How about the British Museum? I think that is still free admission. Also, for the price of a tube ticket out to Colindale on the Northern Line you could take in the RAF Museum which is also free admission. Another one that is free is the Imperial War Museum.

Edit. I just checked and the British Museum is still free.

    As is the RAF Museum

    And finally the IWM

Victoria & Albert Museum is also free. There's a room with jewellery - an 8 year old girl might find all that bling quite interesting. (delete the spaces in the links - as a new user I'm not allowed to post with links) www. vam .ac.uk

In Bethnal Green there's the Museum of Childhood - also free entry with an overview of toys & childhood throughout the centuries. (mainly 18/19/20th century). Quite interactive for kids. www. vam. ac.uk/moc/

Go feed the squirrels in Hyde Park/Kensington gardens. Take some nuts and they'll come and get it right out of your hand.

Here's a list of free attractions: www. visitlondon.com/tag/free-attractions

Foodwise I'd say go to Wetherspoons. Cheap, chearful and quite tasty.

Edit: I agree that the British Museum is a good choice. Lots and lots to see - choose a few rooms; don't try to do the whole thing in one go.

Under 10's travel free on the tube and buses. I went last year with my dd for a day. We did the tour round London, did Buckingham Palace, Parliment Square, the Grenwich Observatory (free, the Maritime Museum is not). Hamleys, Harrods, and generally wandered about :)

She was in charge of the tube map, and we just pinged from place to place as the mood took us.

Post removed due to lack of gratitude from OP.

Notice how she hasn't thanked anyone.

    Hamleys

Yes! An absolute must with an 8 year old! I can still remember when my parents took me there, aged 5. The mountains of teddybears... :happyhear

Tickets to TV and radio shows are free. :money: Beware that there are often age restrictions, so it's best to choose children's programmes for your daughter to attend.

The BBC do tours which aren't too expensive. Here's an example that's suitable for children: http://www.bbc.co.uk/showsandtours/tours/tours_cbbc.shtml

The Tate Modern is in a spectacular building with a huge range of modern art in all shapes and sizes. Huge Pop Art paintings, sculptures you can walk through ... It's on the Thames so you can stroll along the river and walk cross it on the Millennium Bridge.
