Natwest Foundation Rejection

Hi all

I've just heard that I got rejected for a Natwest Foundation account. Absolutely gutted. Does anyone have any advice? I was bankrupt in 2007, discharged April 2008.

Thanks. :(

Have you cleaned up your credit file, as per the sticky?

    Can you appeal the descicion?

  • I've started to, yeah. I took in a copy of my credit file to show the defaults still on there that should've been removed, explaining the significance of the dates to the chap. Trying to see if I can appeal now... Terrible news, as I was under the impression that this is the go-to account for people in this position.

That was my understanding too so I'm shocked to hear news of your rejection. Please keep us updated on the situation as it will be very useful to know the outcome.

    Good luck with the appeal.

  • Apparently they need confirmation of discharge. I had provided a letter from someone at the Insolvency Service, but closer examination shows she made an error; she quoted the date of the bankruptcy order, not the discharge. Looks like a certificate is the best bet for easy admin.

I'll come back with an update when/if this problem's solved.

As it was the IS who made an error you could try going back to them for a corrected letter? Worth it if your tax credits only give you a discount on the £70 Discharge Certificate fee, instead of full redemption.

  • Yes, I may try that. Will be asking the bank in the morning if the original letter would have been enough, had it not been for the error. Will be rather irked if so, as I was already unimpressed with this person.
  • Although saying that, maybe it's a good plan to have a certificate, just in case. No plans to apply for anything else in the foreseeable future, but you never know. I'm a bit confused as to why Natwest can't already see that I've been discharged, as the satisfaction date is on my credit file.

They may not actually see the satisfaction date on your credit file, but that's another option. Maybe if you asked to speak to the Manager and took in a copy of your credit file for them to see you are definitely discharged?

  • Well, I have now given Natwest everything they need. I got an official discharge certificate, sent my credit file in full, explaining that those old defaults are prior to BR, and passed on an email from the Insolvency Service confirming the discharge. It's been a week since handing over that certificate, but the business manager's yet to hear back. Getting restless.

If they turn it down again, is it worth complaining I wonder, if others have had luck? I was discharged in April 2008, so it's been a little while. I have a Vanquis card that I've had for a couple of years which I've paid off in full every month, and a Vodafone contract that's not had any problems.

The business chap has just commented that the initial decline was just that, rather than an offer pending further info. So it doesn't really look too good.
  • Oh yeah, and I have a limited company.
