Hi all.
First post on mse please be gentle with me.
Okay so i bought an lg tv from currys 19 months ago for £650 and yesterday it decided to start showing 2 couloured lines running from top to bottom kust of centre and they are very noticable.
Now it is out of 12 months warranty but would i have a case with the sale of goods act 1979 as 18 months isnt a great time for a tv to last, and how easy would it be be to get currys to agree to the sale goods act and repair or replace the set.
thanks in advance for any help.

Technically you would need to get an independent engineer's report that states the cause of the fault and that this was an inherent fault (present at time of purchase but manifested itself later). Then you present this and the TV to the retailer and request a remedy under SOGA, and you can request a specific remedy. (This is because it is more than 6 months since purchase).
Retailer can then choose which remedy to offer (if your requested remedy is disproportionately costly) - repair, replace, refund, where any refund can be reduced to account for your usage. At 19 months then I'd expect them to offer at best around £440.
However it might be worth just speaking to them first and see what they say. Or wait for others to respond with advice.

Give Currys a ring and quote the act (nicely). When I had a laptop break after 18 months, they made me pay £50 for their inspection, collected it, examined it, replaced the hard drive, delivered it and then refunded my £50 as they admitted it was a manufacturing fault.
Good luck

What size TV? Some of LG's small screen TVs (i.e. 22" and below) have three year warranties.Squirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.

Surely LG do not cost £650 for screens below 22"?mayflygirl wrote: »...........Okay so i bought an lg tv from currys 19 months ago for £650 ..............
