Ok....the oven element kept tripping the electric,so put in a new element.all seemed ok,but now the oven is getting to hot, switches off & i will not come on agin untill its cooled down,i think this is due to the thermal cut out.so i think i need a new oven thermostat & all should be ok......i would be grateful of a second opion.

if it worked properly immediatly after you put the element in then went wrong it is your stat , if it overheated immediatly after you fitted the element it could be that you have wired it incorrectly or the stat is gone , but you are on the right track0

Had cooker 'issues' myself a few months ago (which I fixed). Mine was a faulty simmerstat (sits behind the switch). In my case I (wrongly) thought the element was faulty and swapped it out. As it didn't cure the problem, I then replaced the simmerstat and Bob's your proverbial.
If you have two ovens (one working, one not) you might try swapping the simmerstats (or whatever they are called on your cooker). It should then be obvious if that part is faulty.0 -
Mine does exactly the same, but to really confuse me the light has gone as well... So I can't tell if it's still on or if it's turned itself off.
I really need to sort it out but in the mean time I just have a floor standing fan which I stand infront of the cooker where the thermostat is, to keep it cool.0 -
Decided to order a thermostat off ebay......i will let you know how i get on.0

Simmerstats are for hobs.
Thermostats are used in ovens.
To get the correct oven spares, like any spare part, the model and make at the very least are required.
