Ticket UKPC - Should I ignore?

Options
Hi..

This weekend I parked in a retail car park, which is two hours free parking when a ticket is displayed, which I did, and displayed on my drivers window. When I returned to car there was a ticket from UKPC for 'parked without clearly displaying a valid pay and display ticket'...for £90!! cheeky sods!!!
Although the ticket has printed on it 'Display on dashboard this side up' as far as I am concerned I was displaying a valid ticket, albeit not in the place they stipulate!. I spoke to an attendant that I spotted to dispute, who said he could only advise what to do..but that he himself would check both dash and window, and that I should write to company and dispute.

I was all set to send them a nasty letter, but after reading this forum am tempted to just ignore, but worried.. what should I do??

  • It says ignore all over this part of the forum, so take a wild stab in the dark what your answer will be...
Went shoplifting at the Disneystore today.

Got a huge Buzz out of it.
  • Private parking tickets have no legal validity and contacting the company makes them think that you can be bullied into paying and so you will receive more meaningless threatmail. Look at the Watchdog video on one of the stickies and totallly ignore this scam.
Still waiting for Parking Eye to send the court summons! Make my day!

Congratulations on finding this forum before entering into any dialogue with UKPC. As you have probably seen from the many threads on the forum, the clear advice is to ignore them completely, and not to be intimidated by the increasingly hysterical and threatening letters you'll receive. They are all meaningless, and can have no effect on your integrity or credit rating. Whatever you do, do not be worried or feel harrassed. And do not communicate with UKPC, no matter how tempting.

Save the ticket and parking receipt label, just for peace of mind and dont fall for the "wanting to fight them " scam, that is how it works, all they are interested is your money, they have read every type of "clever letter" a thousand times over and succeeded in scamming cash from many of them.
You win this game by not playing it !
Its their game, their rules which they can change, they decide who wins, however if you ignore them and dont play they will send you all sorts of silly letters threatening ever increasing ridicules threats about suing, court, all complete %%**.
This is basically a scam that impersonates authority, around 6 out of 10 fall for it, some more than once as they often come back for more money in "late payment" charges.
Just remember the impersonation bit and be warned they will impersonate debt collector's and solicitors, so arm yourself in what to expect.
Right thats the start of your game, now to win you have to completely IGNORE them unless they put up or shut up with sealed court papers and you have more chance of winning 10 grand on the lottery than that.

  • Thanks all for putting my mind at rest!!... Is it worth complaining to anyone to help stamp out this scam???
  • I am afraid not, believe me I have contacted Trading Standards severeral times and they seem totally unconcerned. I have also contacted retailers who use PPCs and got nowhere. It may be worth a letter to your MP.

Though that will tend to be just as futile. There are posts around these forums from people who have tried that route (including me), especially around the related Freedom Bill, and it seems most MPs are taken in by the spin from the BPA around the wonderful service they provide in parking management.

Private = ignore, ignore, ignore some more.

    Nothing else is relevant [truly].
