Online Purchase not fulfilled

Options
I purchased a rug on 25 Dec from a large store's online sale which was significantly reduced in price.

Funds were removed from my payment card and I was advised by email that delivery from supplier could take 2 weeks.

Surprised to received an email on 6 Jan to advise that product has been discontinued and a refund would be made.

My frustration here is that I have missed out on the opportunity to select an alternative sale item from the store or to have the same right to shop around if the rug had not been advertised if I had been advised immediately that the product was not available. The best deals in the sales are gone in the first few days. What are my rights the store have offered £40 compensation but the rug was £495 reduced to £275 and I am unlikely to be able to find a similar replacement for £275?

You have no rights to anything beyond being put back in the situation you were prior to purchases.

The 40 quid compensation is 40 quid more than they have to offer and as such I would accept it and move on.
