Dell Inspiron on a massive go-slow

What new software has been installed recently?
If you don't want to do a Factory Restore, then do a Sys Restore to a date prior to when it slowed down. Then remember to run Windows Updates again.
It's not my laptop so not really sure. Having said that I can guarantee that if the MIL has installed software recently it will be by accident! However, her granddaughter also uses it, so who knows what crap she's stuck on it."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -
Go to Control Panel>Programs and sort by date, that might reveal more. My money's on the g.d.No free lunch, and no free laptop

There's barely any software on it so I thought I'd try a system restore. Unfortunately it will only allow me to restore to yesterday so that's no good. Looks like I'll have to do a factory restore."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0

That seems very odd. Did you select 'Show me more Restore Points'?
Is the drive nearly full? If so that may be why it's gone so slow, and it's deleted all the old Restore Points. No free lunch, and no free laptop

I did but it only gave me the last few actions (which went back to yesterday).
When you say 'drive' which do you mean?"Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -

Your hard drive (usually 'C' drive)
Mine for example says 751GB free of 931GB
If it was getting pretty full it would be more like 5GB free of 931GB:idea:0 -
Typically once it gets more than about 85% full you will notice a slow down.
