looking for a car with soft suspension (hence boring handling) and small engine

Looking for a car with soft suspension, an engine < 2.0L (so probably not most luxury cars), the size of a small family car, and about 7-11 years old. Price range max of around 4k.

The soft suspension is really an imperative, as I have a hard time with the latest models with (better handling but) much tougher suspension - it's too uncomfortable for me.

Anyone have any suggestions of makes and models? I was thinking a Toyota Corrola 2001 or Peugeot 306

If you can go with an older cheaper model, old shape Mondeo, think they mde them untill 98/99.

Good reliable cars, esp the petrol.

bought one for £50 once, (petrol) 186K on the clock when I bought it, never let me down.

Otherwise, the toyota is a good bet.

Citroen 2CV has the softest suspension I have ever had the misfortune to drive.

    Rover 75. Pretty small inside.

The rover 75 has a soft ride as above, I'd also have a look at the citroen xsara of 2001ish which are dirt cheap (i.e £500 quid for a 2002/2003 car) but can have annoying niggles, the C5 is pretty much the same. I find almost all saabs really really soft (like a boat when chucking them around) so could be worthwhile trying a 9-3 or 9-5

    2nd the C5,however they aren't that small
the lower spec C5's have softer suspension. the sportier models have a firmer(still soft though) set up

Toyota Yaris Verso 1.3 ( TARDIS ) from around 2000-2004.

Small outside , huge inside, back seats fold under the floor and you can load a pallet in the back.

Not swapping mine till it falls in bits, 2002 model , 57000 miles .

pretty small inside are you having a laugh, they are cavernous and extremely comfortable to drive. If you find a 75 small I would suggest looking at LWB sprinters to get the room you need.

OP take a test drive in avensis 03-09 model, I have to say the suspension in mine is way to soft for me but its very comfortable to drive.

Dad owned a 2.5 V6 75 Connoisseur Plus for 9 years. Rear leg room, rear head room and front shoulder room all felt more cramped than a similarly sized 318. When the 75 died last year he replaced it with a 308 - that also has more interior space that the 75.

Nice place to sit though and wonderful ride if you drive like a nun - Dad averaged 33mpg in the 75 and is getting 40mpg from the auto petrol 308.

f he got 33mpg from the 2.5 clearly he drove like a dead nun lol. I averaged low 20's on the 2.0 but then I do have a heavy right foot.

Rear space for tall people is a little cramped in the rear for 75 but leg room in the rear was ample just the roof line got in the way.
