Windows 7 Lion update

I don't know if anyone else has had this problem but I will explain it as well as I can. I have a Macbook Pro which ran on Snow Leopard. I also had Windows 7 which was running through Parallels desktop. Recently I upgraded to Lion and when I tried to reinstall Windows 7 it gave me 'error 7601 this is not a genuine copy of windows'. It is a genuine copy and I have the CD and when I try to enter the serial code it does not accept it. I did not have this problem previously on Snow Leopard and was wondering if anyone has had a similar experience or could assist me with this problem?

Is there anyone who would be able to help me with this please? Have googled it and still haven't found an answer apart from being advised to buy a new activation key. I certainly don't want to pay twice for it!0

He's using parallels which is a program that runs Window as a Virtual Machine under OS X.
Your copy of Windows 7, you don't say what version it is but I suspect that it is an upgrade version rather than a full version and the problem you are having is because you are trying to do a fresh install and it will only let you load it as an upgrade from an earlier version of Windows.
Have a look at the Windows disk and it will tell you if it's the full version or an upgrade version.

Thanks everyone for your help. Masonn it is Windows 7 Ultimate edition, 64 bit and it is not the upgrade version. I made sure I didn't purchase the upgrade version.0

I'd call MS and ask them TBH

That's good. Microsoft holds activation data for a limited period of time, it used to be 180 days. If you try and activate again in this period it won't let you do it over the internet.
If you call MS customer service and tell them about the upgrade and the problem they should give you an activation code over the phone.

am i right to assume that setting your mac up to dual-boot using bootcamp is not suitable? much better than working through parallels imo and experience, but personal choice remains of course.Friendly greeting!0

It depends what you're doing with Windows and which Mac you have. I have i5 quad core 27" iMac and there are a couple of programs that I need windows for.
I play Call of duty MW3 on-line and for that I use boot camp and run Windows 7 directly. For everything else I run a Windows 7 VM, I use VirtualBox which is free rather than Parallels and the VM can cope with pretty much anything. One by one the penguins are slowly stealing my sanity.0 -
Thanks everyone once again. I'll give Microsoft a quick call.0
