Just saved £300 on car insurance

Options
woohoo!

i used a screen scraper last time which found me a very good price. I upgraded the car and the premium went up - made the mistake of not shopping around at the time because i though it must have been competive. However, gave it a shot today and was shocked to nearly half my premium so bit their (esure's) arm off! Only annoyance is Endsleigh, the original insurer is charging me £50 to get out...

I really can't understand why there is such huge price differences between insurers. I changed my car a couple of weeks ago - cheaper car to save some money - and they wanted nearly £700 more. I only had the other policy for two weeks, and I had done my homework and knew I could get it far cheaper elsewhere. I told them so, they said they would call me back and sure enough they came back with a cheaper quote that I found on the net.

I could have just said ok the first time around and paid that extra money.

i know - i think 95% of people probably dont shop around and just stick with their current insurer (who i'm sure recognise this pattern!). the only bit off effort you've got to do is send some documents, but well worth the savings...

I saved well over £1000 on car insurance for my son's car a couple of weeks ago - he's 17 and a learner, so we expected it to be on the high side, but I certainly didn't expect to get quotes from £1500 upwards for an old £250 car! We came up trumps when I phoned my husband's car insurance company - NFU Mutual. As I've been a named driver on his policy for years, they gave me 5 years no claims discount (my son's car insurance is in my name with him as named driver). Their quote came in at £420, fully comprehensive (we chose this option as it includes break down cover and quite a few other extras, we also paid £7.50ish for protected no claims discount, which I thought was very good value). Also, when my son passes his test, if he agrees to sign up to NFU Mutual's safe driver scheme they will refund £100, which will then bring the annual premium down to £320. At a later date, my son will be able to take out his own policy and as a named driver on this one he should be able to get no claims discount in his own right too.

    hi shamlay
sorry but what you have done is fraud, in insurance language its called FRONTING. if its your sons car and he is the main driver he must be first named and you should be the 2nd named driver. your/his insurance is invalid. i speak from experience.

Thank you Westie, I'll bear that in mind when he drives the car more than me. At the moment, even if he is driving, it's with one of us as passenger.
