Car Damaged at Dealer - Help with rights please

Options
Hi everyone

Just looking for a bit of advice, we bought a brand new car in November 11 and took back to the dealer for its one month health check in December.

Upon being checked it was found that the car had a faulty door seal - not a problem as they replaced under warranty and although not happy about it we were perfectly amicable about it - these things happen.

When we returned to pick the car up, we found that it had been scratched beyond belief, the window, trim and and all along the side of the car, they said it probably had been done whilst changing the seal.

We then checked the inside of the door where we found they had gouged a great big hole on the inside of the door with what they think was a screwdriver.

We were not happy but agreed to let them repair the damage caused, we then went a couple of days later to collect to find even more damage on the tailgate where they think they have reversed it into a bush - its becoming a real comedy of errors at this point - we are due to take it back into tomorrow and have now found the door is rattling where they replaced the seal and have obviously not put it back together correctly.

We are obviously concerned about them working on it again and just wondered if anyone knew of what our rights are in this situation. In our eyes they have completely mullered a brand new car.

We obviously can't demand a new car but wondered what people would think was reasonable to ask for as we have been without the car more time than we have had it.

Many thanks in advance

Fiona

It may be possible to reject the repair from the dealer and have another do it more competently and charge the original dealer the cost of any losses.
The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark

I'd also be looking to get something in writing in case it turns nasty and they deny it.

    i agree with flyboy
but do you have legal cover?
if you do ask if they can get an independent inspector to look at the damage so saving you very expensive independent assessment and seeking an independant repairer of quality at no cost to you

personally this place sounds like a right set of muppets and i have two different sets of dealers in my head who would do this and employ the employees to do this kind of damage

Arnold Shark would likely be one of them. ;)
  • Thanks for your advice everyone. Going to try and get it independently checked and repaired with someone else. Muppets is indeed the right word for them!!!
