IMC is a basic and necessary qualification. Every discretionary manager should hold it. Looking at mine it says "UKSIP Level 3 Certificate in Investment Management" - it's a building block on the way to CFA. The securities institute exams are excellent, but they are not internationally recognised. I meet loads of fund managers with CFA from France/scandinavia/US/switzerland etc - that's the benefit to it. It's not easy though.

"Investment Analyst" is not a controlled function, so is not regulated by the FSA. An analyst works for a firm, and has no contact with private clients - only other professionals, so he doesn't need to be regulated in the way that people who deal with private clients are.

The two main controlled (and therefore regulated) functions are CF21 (investment adviser) - which all IFAs need to have, and CF27 (investment manager) which you need to manage money for private clients.
I'm an Investment Manager. Any comments I make on this board should be not be construed as advice, and are for general information purposes only.

    THANK YOU SO MUCH! :xmastree:
    Now I have clear picture.
I will start from IMC and later after couple of years of employment in this area hopefully carry on with CFA.
What do you think could be the best point in this profession? What do you think about Trainee Real Estate Investment Analyst? Other words where shall I start from? :wall:
As I mentioned I have only CeMAP/CeFA/non-EU accounting qualification.
    Thanks.

    Trainee Real Estate Investment Analyst

Isn't that a saturday boy at an estate agent?

If you want to be an (equity) analyst, you'll need to work for a broker such as merrill lynch, hsbc, teather & greenwood etc - the so called "sell-side", or for a fund management company/pension scheme etc - the "buy-side". You'll need to have a first class education and some experience, then you'll need to work your way up.

Experience - this is a key word! Where can I get one?!
I have to start from something first before I become proper analyst.
