But what IS the point of the RS232 port at the back, and can I just plug an external hard drive into the usb port??

I only ask , because I have time on my hands and was sitting wondering what the meaning of life was...;)

I think the RS 232 port is for factory config changes
as to the USB port what box do you have as i havent got a USB on mine
  • It would be great wouldn't it? Just plug a USB drive into the back of your Sky box and increase the capacity of the storage? Sadly, it's not possible. Perhaps in the future but not now.

If you don't mind opening the box it's pretty easy to upgrade the internal HD to a larger capacity

if you connect earthed equipment to the RS-232 connector, you must use an approved screened cable.
could this be for a tv-out tv-in for the pc. perhaps.

The RS232 port is for factory testing. I believe you can also connect a "Sky Gnome" wireless audio system to it.
