  • Have you also checked Equifax and Call Credit. It is possible that there may be different information showing there. Also are you on the electoral roll?

Firstly Orange may use another data agency that might be showing something different, e.g. Equifax.

Secondly a credit socre or rating is not only an indicator of whther you have paid on time or not, but is points accumulation system that gives Orange a view on what sort of person / spender you are. Each company has their own system of scoring and their own idea of what constitues a 'good' score and a 'poor' score and they choose what sort of score they are happy to accept.

If you have looked at your credit rating on experian, I take it that you have looked at your history. If you cannot see anything on there that might influence their decision, call them and ask them if there is anything in particular that is preventing you getting a contract or alternatively try another provider. It may simply that you don't have enough of a track record of repaying credit for them to set one up for you.

Experians score is worth the paper it is written on. It only looks at your history and not the other elements lenders consider and it uses experians own scoring system where the majority of the larger lenders (like banks, telephone companies etc) will have written their own scoring system.

  • thank you all. I have not tried Equifax yet so I will, and I shall try Orange again. It's been such a pain as I've been trying to sort this out for months.

Hi, I remember when i got my first report which was practically a blank file with one basic bank account i had for about 2 months, not even on elctoral role or had any credit nd that gave me a good credit score !! So I suppose unless you have had a few years on the electoral role managed a few accounts for a couple of years it doesnt really mean much scaore wise. A good credit file is good payment history, no adverse or late payments and also some stability on the electoral role, ideally 3 years on electoral role at your current address makes a lot of difference, also noted my equifax and experian credit scores are quite different. Anyway good luck

  • Hi all,

My partner and I are going to be applying for a mortgage soon, but we dont yet have our credit scores.

I was wondering how important it is to be on the lectoral role? For the last 3 years i have been a student, and we have lived in different cities and rented various places...and its never come up anywhere that we should get onto the electoral role. I dont even know how you get on it?

How important is previous addresses/being on the electoral role for your credit rating?

Extreemly important, you must be on electoral role for a number of years, someone will know exactly but i would have thought at least 3 years if not more, you will not get any meaningful credit without being on the electoral role.

Someone who is more experianced in this will advise im sure

  • But how on earth should we have known this?? And how do you even get on it?

Do you mean credit just for big things, like a mortgage? As we have had no problem getting creditr cards and two small loans..

Now you have really worried me! Im wondering why on earth i didn't know this before?

Surely if its that imporant someone should inform us?
