Hi all,
I have been given a huge bag of beef suet.
I have made lush dumplings just with a casserole but want more inspiration on ways to use it thriftily. I hate waste.
I am thinking of roly poly pud and spotted !!!!!! but would prefer none steamed recipes purely cos I would be likely to let the pan boil dry
I found a good recipe off an old thread by Mrbadexample (thanks OP!) and am looking for more old fashioned ideas along that line:

I cook a steak and kidney pudding with suet crust pastry, just cook it like a normal pie in the oven. Also Peach/apple cobbler is another good one for the oven .#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

Fantastic Tanith!
Love the cobbler idea.
Also reckon the oven steak n kidney would work well. Got loads of casserole steak so I could just omit the kidneys!
Cheers :A Every moment is a gift. That's why we call it the present.!:A

I do add a touch of sugar to the cobbler crust and a sprinkle of brown sugar on top...its yummy with cream and/or custard... (the steak and kidney should be pie not pudding as its oven cooked).. as I'm sure someone will come along and tell us..lol#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

If you have a slow cooker then you can steam puddings in that.
There's a post by Math on the 13-09-2004, 10:15 PM on here which says
"Cooking the Christmas Pudding and steamed puds
Any pudding you would traditionally steam can be cooked in a slow cooker. Fab for cooking/reheating your Christmas pudding when you have no room on the hob. I cook my Christmas pudding overnight. 1 1/2 pts of water lasts 8 hours with no boiling over or need to top up. I used to hate the day I couldn't go out cos the pudding was on and needed watching."
Sorry as a newbie I can't post hyperlinks
I've used suet pastry for the top crust of steak pies baked in the oven.
It would be an early start for this years Christmas, but mincemeat and Christmas Pud would keep well.0 -
