S&S ISA beginner

Hello i am intending to put £150 a month into a stocks and shares isa. I have filled my allowance of cash this year and am looking for the cheapest way i can just invest this money regularly every month.

Is there a online guide?
Please can you advice on the best way to do this is HL the best people to do this with.

I am sure this is the what i want to do and i already know which stock i want to invest in i am only after advice on the cheapest way of doing this as a monthly investment. Would it be better to save it and buy the s&s isa with a lump sum ?

  • Drip feeding into a HL S&S Isa couldn't be easier.

What stock do you want to buy? Shares in a S&S Isa can be expensive due to the transaction fees. It is often more economical to buy funds which also spread the risk somewhat.

I am a complete novice and have been doing this for about a year now. I have lost about 5% but seems to be a better performance than many fund managers over the same period so I am not losing sleep. It's been fun too!

Cheapest or best? Is your objective to make money or save in charges?

Charges are an important consideration. However, they are secondary to where and how you want to invest. If you let charges be the primary consideration you could end up with some very poor quality investments.

The people here are going to need to know. However, the fact you have picked a stock already suggests that HL wont be the best place. HL is priced and geared for funds. It does have a perfectly good platform for holding stocks but it is not it's primary purpose. Also, buying stocks on a monthly basis can work out to be very expensive. Indeed, at £150pm, probably prohibitively so
