Capita Tracing - Credit Check but no letter?

Hi all,

My husband checked his credit reports yesterday and noticed 2 x checks carried out on 21 and 22 December by Capita Hartshead Tracing Solutions. They were marked as "unclassified" in the section which describes the reason for the search.

We've never heard of them, but after some googling and checking on here I can see that people have received letters from them regarding their PPI claims etc.

My husband DID put in a PPI claim and had a letter from Lloyds to confirm he'd get a check in the post any day now (hasn't arrived as yet). We can't think of any other reason for a credit check, as he hasn't taken any recent credit out.

My question is: If the Capita credit check is linked to my husband's PPI claim, is it usual for the to run a credit check rather than just send a letter in the post? We are worried now that he has 2 x entries for December on his record and we are applying for our first mortgage this summer.

Any advice gratefully received.

The search will not be visible to other lenders.

Maybe contact them if you have any queries:

I also had a check done on me by Capita on the same date (21 Dec 2011) and I haven't put in any PPI claims. I called Capita and they said they did a search on that date on behalf of a pension firm (didn't say the name) looking for teachers. I informed them that I've never been a teacher and they are now looking into why they searched me.
