Heres a tip - dont expect one!

In New York State the minimum wage for "tipped staff" is just over $2/hr (compared to over $7/hr for other employees). That's why they expect a tip because it's how the system works.

I assume a pilot is on more than $2 an hour so wont be expecting a tip then!

Different States, different rules. However yes, NY 'service paid' staff are particulary tip dependent.

I just dont get the whole tipping thing - if i someone goes way above expectations i may consider a tip but i just dont get why i should tip someone simply for doing their job???
