electric / gas pre pay meter
just moved house and these were already installed , do u pay more with meter or is it same as gas seems to run out in 3 days , £15 worth . im with british gas for both.
also does it cost to have them removed?
and if you changed supplier every 2 months to claim £30 back , would this work out cheaper?

On gas they charge the same as their cash/cheque rates, on electricity they have a seperate tariff which generally works out slightly more expensive, although not always.
They will change the meters free of charge provided you pass the credit check (otherwise they take a security deposit), and then you can benefit from the direct debit savings or go on click energy, which is cheaper still.
If you switched to another supplier with a similar/cheaper tariff than BG's then switched back after a few months, you would receive 2 Quidco payments. It is always worth checking the market regularly to make sure you are still on the lowest rate.
If you haven't already, make sure you register with BG asap regardless of what you decide so you don't end up paying someone else's debt through the meter.0 -
Get them out is my advice. They are there for a reason, and the reason usually is: the utility companies ain't getting paid for the gas/elec being used, so they install these to make sure they get their money.0

Cash / Cheque rate is pretty dear, a few providers charge their pre-payment the same as cash / cheque other dearer.
However if you can pay by direct debit on a monthly scheme you can save a fair amount. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0 -

That they don't.
....but then they aren't the cheapest when it comes to being able to paying by DD.It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... If you are in receipt of qualifying benefits, you can now get British Gas direct debit tariff on a prepayment meter.0

You mention security deposit I have just been told I may need to pay one from moving from Ebico supply (single credit meter) to click energy 6 elecrtic although the guy on the phone said that if I paid by Direct Debit I may not have to pay this does anybody know how much they usually ask for and when you get it back I think I know the reason discharged bankrupt last year but ive never missed a bill in my life well at least not an electric bill anyway! Im only changing to them as Ebico have got so expensive for electric now im not a great lover of BG but needs must any ideas on how and if I will get it back sooner rather than later would be appreciated thanks0

Do you know if working tax credit included in this? And how you go about getting the direct debit rate?

(Although others have suggested that this tariff is now defunct.) And it only matches (matched?) standard prices on direct debit, not Click prices.0
