Churchill Renewal - Brand new Customers Only?

Got Janets' renewal from Churchill - £565

Went on confused.com and a couple of others.... got quotes of around £445, (having clicked through to the insurers' sites and filled in a bit more info).

Feeling a bit sneaky, went to Churchills' site and got a quote for a made up couple with the same details and postcode as Janet, (and me) - £314

Thinking it would refer me, I entered Jantes' legitimate details into Churchills site - no mention of her already being insured, and the quote is £314

Apart from being really ****ing annoyed that they are using the inertia trick to overcharge by £250..... can anyone think of any reason why she should just buy a new policy from Churchill via the web site.

Has anybody successfully taken advantage of something like this in the past with their existing insurer?

Cheers

Richard

Last year my renewal quote from Direct LIne was higher than a quote I received when I input my details online as a new customer. So I rang them and queried this and they simply matched the lower quote. I would ring Churchill, you have nothing to lose and plenty to gain.

There is nothing to stop you canceling the existing policy and becoming a new customer again but then you do have the disadvantages of being a new customer too (more likely to have claims checked for fraud, more expensive mid term cancellation charges, less likely to get "the benefit of the doubt")

Some insurers will price match themselves if you call them which gives you the best of both worlds as you remain an existing customer and get the lower price. If they wont it is up to you to decide if you are better of with the "benefits" of being an existing customer or the lower premium - in your example I would imagine it isnt that hard a decision

A No Brainer as they say. We would almost certainly go with Marks & Spencer at £442, (or less if they would negotiate). They paid up without question on a travel insurance claim a couple of years ago, so we have already had good experiences with them.

Thanks to all for the input.

Three years ago my wife was insured with Churchill. Renewal quote came and that was high, so went with Lloyds/TSB. Next year renewal quote was high, so went with Prudential.

Ironically, both Lloyds/TSB and Prudential Car policys are underwitten by Churchill....

This is common amongst Insurance Companies, and I always re-check each year.

My latest policies were done through one of the splendid cash-back sites (PM if you want details), where they give you £100, just for taking out an insurance policy with them.

The current offers are for Lloyds and Prudential, who are both actually Churchill in disguise.

That way, not only do you get cheaper insurance, but they give you another £100 just for doing it...

My insurance is running at around £180 a year at the moment by doing this!
