Croatia

Four of us are going to Croatia (Porec area) in Summer and are "older citizens" this will be our first time here so looking for a bit of advice generally from others who might have been.

Are there any language problems in Croatia? Do most speak some English?

What would you recommend we do for sightseeing? None of us drive!!!!

Is it very hot usually mid June?

Any tips or advice gladly taken. Thanks a lot.

The site shammy mentioned is excellent.

Most young people speak English. Croatians working in tourist areas nearly all speak some English. However, learning a few words of Croatian is appreciated.

The bus network is very good, however it may get busy in the summer months, as it's favourite mode of transport with tourists and locals.

As 'older citizens', you should find it a nice relaxing holiday. Croats are fairly laid back and welcoming to tourists. The pace is pretty casual in virtually every aspect of life, so there's no need to rush.

Temperatures in June can get pretty warm, certainly late 20's when I last went at that time a couple of years ago.

The old town in dubrovnik is jaw dropping, day or night, I went 2 years ago, the rest was a long way from tourist friendly...

They've a way to go to get back on the tourist map... in all the wrong ways, I found the locals to be unfriendly, poor service, poor food, a litle hostile really, but hey... the've been through the mill...

There is a bar in the walls of the old town called buza (pronounced buja) it has the most spectacular views, but i think porec is a long way from dubrovnik, for me, the only place to visit there right now...
