R80 Eyeball lights

Fitted some R80 eyeball downlights in the kitchen and they worked fine for a while and then the bulbs keep going on and off as if they dont quite seem to fit the fitting.
If I tap the bulb it comes back on, but if I screw the bulb in too tight when it goes it blows and leaves the top of the bulb in the fitting and I cant get it out.
Should I just replace all the fittings with better quality and if so what make do you recommend.
Thanks

Are they new fittings you installed? I often replace older ones as eventually the contacts go, but if yours are new then perhaps you should take them back and get a replacement or some better quality ones. You do need to screw the bulbs in nice and tight but it sounds like you'd got this bit sussed. Also worth checking the connections to each light as if they are loose, when you tap the bulb this might be making the connection.0 -
Turn the power off to the lights at the distribrution board (don't rely on the wall switch) and unscrew the bulbs and make sure the little tab in the bottom of the fitting is pulled up enough to make contact with the end of the bulb - the two contacts for these bulbs are this tab and the metal screw so that's the most likely problem!0

Thanks guys they were new fittings and if I screw the bulb in tight, when it goes cant get the damn thing out, think I will buy some better quality fittings and replace them.
Will also check out those contacts as well Sew What0
