I went out to my car this morning and found that some nice person (s) had decided to yank the wing mirrors off my car and scratch the paintwork all down each side. Other cars in the road appear to have been damaged too, or so the police said when I rang to report it.
Anyway I have a £150 excess on my insurance policy and only have 40% no claims, due to go up to 60% on 7 March if I haven't claimed, plus I have a £150 excess. The car is a Renault 06 reg Grand Scenic and looking at it one wing mirror can be repaired but the other one will need to be totally replaced, plus the scratches on the bodywork dealt with. I know a chap who can do the scratches for not too much money but he can't do the mirrors so I rang Renault Liverpool and they said that the mirrors are £118 each to buy, but then they have to be painted the colour of the car and fitted and this will be about £60 - 70 plus VAT on top of the mirrors, and they said that they thought I would have to buy two mirrors cos they couldn't fix the other one (my paint chap says one CAN be fixed). My question is this: Can I buy the mirrors anywhere else but from Renault and would they be any cheaper, and how much should I be looking to pay to have it fitted, assuming I can get the paint chap I know to paint it?
Sorry if these questions are facile but I am totally useless when it comes to cars. Any advice would be most welcome.

This seems to be becoming a national pastime, ripping peoples mirrors off, especially in the middle of the night at weekends,i blame tony for letting the pubs stay open till 5am near us!!
This is a reasonable area but being on a main road , with all kinds of clowns passing by, it happens nearly every week, makes you sick.

There are options ranging from white box parts which are original or non-original (originals are made at the same factory as the renault ones but simply go in a white box rather than a renault branded box where as non-originals are made by another company who have reverse engineered it), reconditioned parts or second hand parts.
The most expensive is clearly branded original parts especially if you buy them from a main dealerAll posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers

just wondering if it is a good idea to get a car cover for the car. Make sure the road tax is visible. may not prevent them from damaging the mirror but will make keying your car a bit more difficult.Problem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problems
Well at least i learn something on the way
