Faulty Camera

Options
Hi just asking if anyone can give me any advise on this. I purchased a camera for my daughter for Christmas from Tesco back in September when they were selling of their electrical goods at ridiculously low prices. It mean that I was able to get an exceptionally good camera for just £25 (12 mega pixel, 5 x 0ptical zoom):money: However when I gave it to my daughter for Christmas a couple of faults became apparent (sticking protective lens and zoom button). I contacted Samsung and it would appear that when Tesco purchase their goods the warranty transfers to them so Samsung have nothing to do with it. Tescos only offer an exchange or refund and not a repair service. The problem I have is Tescos no longer stock this camera so an exchange is not possible and therefore only a refund of the £25 is possible. I cannot afford the extra money necessary to replace the camera with something equivalent which would be at least double the money and I have purchased approximately £25 worth of extras for the camera (camera case, tripod and SD card) which my daughter had for Christmas which will become useless if I don't get a replacement. As you can imagine my daughter is upset and I don't want to disappoint her but at this point in time we do not have any more money to add to this. :( Does anyone know if there is anything we can do apart from just take the £25 which will mean that we are out of pocket for the extra items we purchased? I would be more than happy to have the camera repaired but for some reason this doesn't appear to be an option. Thank you for any assistance that can be given. :A

That is a shame that Samsung can't offer a replacement.

Surely though the card, tripod and case should fit most cameras?

There may be other cameras available

The case, tripod and SD card will all (probably) be suitable for the replacement camera whenever it is purchased.

In fact, when making your choice of a replacement, make sure those items are suitable.

Sorry, that's the best I can do.
Tesco only have to offer a refund in this case.

Thanks for the posts I thought my options were limited but it never hurts to ask. I'll keep my eyes open for the best deal I can and hopefully it won't be long before I manage to source a replacement.

Well if it helps, while 5x optical zoom is good to have, it shouldn't be too hard to find a similarly priced camera with similar optics.

It doesn't really matter how many megapixels the camera has. That's why Canon scaled back the pixel count when they went from the G10 to G11 (I think it was those two models, anyway).

A £100, 8mp canon camera would have a much, MUCH better sensor and lens quality than a 12mp Vivitar, so find a decent camera, and don't worry about the megapixel count.
  • I used to have a regular argument with someone I worked with a few years ago over this same subject.

I had a Nikon digi camera, and if I recall correctly, it had 6.7mp.
The other person had a "supernippon" (or something similar) which was 8mp, and he was adamant that because of this extra stated resolution, his camera far was superior to the NIkon.

A quick look at the quality of the photos produced quickly showed who was correct.

What model of camera is it?

If it is a discontinued model, it may be available cheaply elsewhere.

Agreed. That said, I've had a few Samsung's, and they've generally been very good cameras for the money.

True, I was looking at a new bridge camera and they have reduced the MP's, but improved the other technology
