Where to get a polytunnel

Hi, I live in the Outer Hebrides in Scotland and I am looking into getting a polytunnel that will withstand the sometimes extreme Hebridean climate! Where is the best place to getting a polytunnel?

The strongest and probably the best polytunnels are made by Northern Polytunnels, but I decided to save ££££ and bought mine from First Tunnels, because theirs are pretty good too. I found the spec I wanted, without frills, and adapted it a bit myself, saving around £500 overall.

You will be looking at 50mm and 60mm frame tubing for an exposed site.

Both companies have good web sites. First Tunnels have lots of YouTube videos too, but they are somewhat short on real detail and give the impression that building a tunnel is a doddle. Well, maybe if it's only 10' x 15' it might be, but a biggie will take serious effort.

One thing First Tunnels score with, is a direct line to their engineers/erectors, which can be a life-saver, especially as their detailed construction manuals aren't 100% accurate!

Whoever you go with, and there are other decent companies out there, push for a discount over and above what they offer you as a freebie. If they are discounting some feature you don't want, then tell them, "No, I'd rather have....."

For you, it might be a discount on the transportation costs. ;)

Edit: I have found this Scottish company who have something to say about their polytunnels' performance in extreme conditions, but also offer this upgrade on their non-commercial range for peace of mind. Might be worth a call to them too:

  • Thank you so much for this info. I came across Highland Polytunnels and have requested some more info. I will look into the other two companies as well. Thanks again
