Any thoughts on Gold as an investment at the moment? Am reading that the price still has a fair way to go.
Also, can anyone recommend a link/company where gold can be traded?

Yes have just seen that, and looks like smile invest are doing a special offer with an introductory charge of 0.5% instead of the normal 5%. The annual charge is higher than I usually like at 1.75% but is probably worth it. Looks like a good diversifer.0 -
smile is a frontend for fidelity funds network. They keep the trail commission for themselves.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The Merrill Lynch fund is not a pure play on the price of gold, though. Not saying it's not a good fund and I hold it as part of a larger portfolio but it is still largely equity based. If you want to track the gold price you either need to buy the physical or use a tracker fund.0

They seem to talk about gold a lot on moneyweek - does this article help at all?

iShares do a gold ETF with ticker IAU. Costs 0.4% p.a. plus whatever fees your broker charges.
Looks much better to me than all this 5% up-front charges and 1.75% pa.a rubbish, unless I'm missing something.0 -
You're missing something. The ETF tracks the price of gold. The Merrill Lynch fund has a mining index as its benchmark. And the charges are largely optional...0
