Children heading back to uni tomorrow

As I write I am relegated to the kitchen and my 2 uni sons are in the lounge with a bunch of friends, the eldest is 21 tomorrow. Both go back on Monday and we and their teenage sister will miss them and their banter. It sometimes feels like a whirlwind when they're home and then suddenly....gone. How to cheer you/us up? Well most has already been mentioned but modern technology helps to keep in touch and I always look forward to the next time they are home. I am just glad that they are finding their independence in a worthwhile way ane feel privileged that they love to come home.0

December 10 th my middle daughter moved away with her boyfriend into their first flat together.
She and her two sisters all at university. My husband works abroad a few times a year so December I came home to an empty house. It was really quiet but I was busy because of the run up to Christmas.
They are coming back Saturday as it's my birthday and then it will be just me again from Sunday as hubby is away again until the end of January.
I keep in touch with text and emails and phone but if they are content and happy then I am.
I cannot believe how much less I buy at the supermarket.
My electric and gas bill should be a lot lower.
Going into the kitchen and still finding it tidy is wonderful.
Watching what I want on the telly.
No more taxi service.
But it will be great to see them on Saturday!2013

Well I am now missing chief computer fixer and his brother chief window shutter. I had to text the eldest last night because the computer he upgraded for us refused to start. I have had a telephone lesson on how to get the side off and check all the cables etc. Fingers crossed it is now working again. I have also had to start getting the steps out to shut the kitchen window because there is no-one here to shut it for me.:rotfl:
On the plus side I haven't bought any food since the 28th December and we have had the heating on much less.0 -
DD left on Sunday and DS Sunday coming. I just get used to getting 4 plates out for dinner, now we're down to 3. Next week it will be 2. Hummm! To do is to be. Rousseau

I know how you feel, both my boys are now back at Uni although my17 year old daughter we hardly ever see as she is in her room most of the time studying A levels / Facebook?!! I have just done an online shop with Tesco and realised at the end of it that i had ordered heaps too much food so had to whittle it down to feed the 3 of us saving a few bob.
We will probably / hopefully see them in Feb half term so thats something to look forward to.
Plenty of us on here only too happy to have a chat and a cheer up :j0 -
The airing cupboard is once again full of towels. The heating is off and the doors closed as opposed to heating on and doors open. The washing machine and tumble dryer have finally not been running all the time. It's quiet. Still one is back this weekend.....0

Yes you are right- a strange calm descends over the house.......... Plus.... Got our water rates through. we're down 30 cubic metres in 6 months compared to same period last year. Bills only dropped £3 a month. Funny isn't it?To do is to be. Rousseau

Things being left in place when you next go to look for them. Food still being in the fridge. Plenty of hot water. No extra noise at night as they are up all hours. Not having to explain when I go out without them. Not having to compromise with the telly. As a previous poster said, I worry about them more when at home than not. I feel they are my responsibility when home but when they are at Uni they have to stand on their own two feet.0
