Are Powergen a con.

Options
I have just had my quarterly bill off Powergen.

The bill content as changed, not much detail, also I note they have put me on capped Gas, on this bill without my say-so. Reading a bit on their web site I have to pay 14p a day for this, at a time when it's going down, been on capped price Electric for about a year.

Anyone think, perhaps they are trying to con me?

Thanks, Ralph.

  • Powergen changed their bill formats a few months ago to try to make them more user friendly.

Regarding the gas being on capped price - are you on their "Onebill" system - ie having just one account number and bill for both gas and electricity? It's possible that they have made a mistake and thought that you wanted capped for both rather than just electric. Give them a call, I'm sure they will just swop it for you.
  • Thanks Crystaltipps.

I am on one bill, When I first went with Powegen I was on energy on line. Last year they sent me a letter, asking if I wanted capped price Electricity, and to be honest, I did not know at the time what was the best thing to do. So they put me on capped Electric, not capped Gas. And like I said a few days ago I had my bill, and found out they had now put me on capped Gas as well, at a time when it was going down. It costs 14p per day to be on capped Gas.

I phoned them the day I wrote my contribution to this thread. And told them about putting me on capped Gas and the 14p per day, and also added that it seems that Dell boy had moved from British Gas to Powergen. I then went on to say that I am going to move elsewhere, and that got her to offer me the cheapest tariff they have at the moment and she said Powergen are cutting their prices in the next few days.

So at the moment I am keeping a sharp look out at how the market is going, and if they are not up there amongst the top I will be gone.
  • I think if you're a dual fuel customer, like yourself, then you can't just have capped electricity, you have to have both. It doesn't sound like this was made clear to you so I'd make a complaint (see link below) and ask them to re-bill you on the cheapest prices (unless of course you want to stay on capped). If you're still eligible for energy online ask them to put you on the extra saver version whilst you're at it.

The layout of the bill has changed again recently. A few months ago the front page (summary) changed and now the second page/side has changed.
  • Hi Stewie I was on duel fuel.
And like I stated they put me on capped Electric, not Gas.
They only put me on capped Gas when it was dew to go down, that's why I said they were a bit of a con.

Im now on energy on line winter saver, still not top of the pile.
Like I said I will keep looking now.
