Hello,
I know you all have brill ideas because I've asked for advice before so I'm wanting to pick your brains again!
My daughter is having her 11 th birthday at home today and whilst musical bumps is ok I'm wondering if anyone could share any party games that have worked well? There will be about 10 girls.
Thanks in advance

Not sure if that is the same as Wink Murder? I taught some 10/11 year olds recently and it was one of their faves. Stand in a circle, send 1 person out of the room (they become the detective), 1 person is decided to be the murderer, detective comes back in. Murderer winks at people and they 'die' (usually in very dramatic fashion!), detective has to guess who is the murderer.
My son is only 7 so we still stick with the traditional bumps/statues and pass the parcel but think I'll need more in my repertoire soon!Little lady arrived 13/12/110 -
To break the ice on arrival, get a small “treasure” for each guest (hair bobbles, small purse, etc – cheapy stuff) and tie it onto a long length of wool. Then make a tangly maze with all the bits of wool going around all the downstairs of the house. Each guest is handed the end of their thread on arrival and told to follow it to the prize! The children all get into a muddle, having to unwind the wool around each other’s wool, around furniture etc. Usually goes down very well!
Mummy game
Need: Cheap loo rolls.
Divide the guests into teams, choose someone to be the mummy.
The other members of the team then have to wrap the mummy
Give them a set amount of time to wrap their mummy
Best wrapped mummy wins
Corners game
Name the 4 corners of the room - can be anything North East South West (colours/numbers/letters)
Play a song and then when you stop the music they have to choose a corner and go to it.
Someone who isnt involved in the game and not looking then calls out one of the corners.
All people in that corner are then out.
Carry on until you have a winner
A variation on musical bumps - form the children into two circles, one inside the other, with the players of one circle facing the players of the other. Ask them to join hands with their opposite player in the other circle. These two become a "pair". They then drop hands and the two circles either march or run round in opposite directions. At a given signal all players run to join hands with their "pair" and then flop down onto the ground. The last pair down is out each round, with the last pair being the winners.
Give them each a sugary doughnut. The winner is the person who eats all the doughnut without licking their lips (easier said than done!)
Get a large bar of chocolate, a hat, scarf, gloves, a knife and fork, and a dice. These go in the middle of the circle of children. They each take turns to throw the dice and when a 6 is thrown, that person goes into the centre of the circle, puts on the hat scarf and gloves and tries to eat the chocolate with the knife and fork, while the other children are still throwing the dice. As soon as the next person throws a 6, the one in the middle must put down the knife and fork and take off the hat scarf and gloves for the next person to have a go. It can be infuriating as sometimes, as soon as you've got the hat on the next person throws a 6!
Divide the children into teams of four or five, who each elect a leader, and give each team the name of some farm animal - horse, pig, cow, chicken, dog, cat etc. Scatter around the garden or inside the house a large number of sweets etc. At the word "go", everyone is to start looking for these goodies, but only the leader of each team can pick them up. When any team member finds a treasure, he stands over it and makes the animal noise of his team. The chickens cluck, the pigs grunt, etc. The leader, on hearing one of his group calling, rushes to the place and collects the booty. Once a player has found a treasure and is standing over it making his call and protecting it, it cannot be collected by the leader of another group. There must be no fights about this!!! The leaders, of course, have a busy time, rushing from place to place, answering the calls of their team members, and the team whose leader collects the most objects wins.
The “items on a tray” is always a good “cool down” game. Put about 20 items on a tray and leave it in the centre of a circle of children, who each have a piece of paper and a pencil. After a few minutes, get them to write down everything they can remember on the tray. The one who remembers most wins. You can obviously adjust the number of items!
Again, requires a good deal of forward planning, but it’s a good game. Go through magazines, cutting out various advertisements. Go through the ads, cutting out (or covering with black marker pen) the name of the item that’s being advertised. Let them try to guess (work out!) what the item is. Can either be done individually or in teams.
If you have enough time before the party, contact the parents of each child and ask for a photograph of the child as a baby or very young child. The children then have to guess who each photograph is.
ETA - oh. Just noticed that the party is today, so the "prepare in advance" ones won't be much good to you. sorry

What kid/adult doesn't like a pinata? Brilliant fun for them - although having a hall full of shredded donkey is a nightmare to tidy up; you could give a special prize for the kid who comes to you with as much of the donkey remains as possible to get them to try clearing it up for you [wish I'd have thought of that one at the time].If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. Poison- plate with one each of different coloured smarties on, send one person out of the room, remaining people decide (quietly) which one of the smarties will be the poison one. victim comes back and eats smarties one by one until they eat the 'poison' one, when that one is picked everyone shouts 'poison' and its end of their turn. replenish plate, pick another victim and repeat until everyone has had a turn. game but much fun.
musical islands-give everyone a sheet of newspaper, music on , dancing around. when music stops you have to fold your sheet of paper in half and stand on it, no feet on floor. repeat, folding paper in half and standing on it when music stops, if your foot touches the floor you are out. ends up with standing on tip toes with one foot on top of the other, if you have good balance. keep going until you have one player left or you cant fold your paper anymore.
chocolate game-you need a bar of chocolate on a plate , a knife and fork, a hat, scarf and pair of (large) gloves and a dice. players take it in turns to roll the dice. If they get a 6 they have to put on scarf hat gloves and attempt to eat the chocolate with the knife and fork, they keep going until someone else throws a 6 and then new player puts on hat scarf etc and carries on eating the chocolate until another 6 is thrown.
face paints? not full face but 'tattoo' size on cheeks and arms/hands, provide face paints and several brushes and mirrors and let them do their own or each others.0 -
The “items on a tray” is always a good “cool down” game. Put about 20 items on a tray and leave it in the centre of a circle of children, who each have a piece of paper and a pencil. with this game after you have played it as above you can then remove one item and they have to try and guess what has been removed, can then be repeated a couple of times.0 -
one tip if you play the mummy game, divide them into two teams and give each a bin bag, first team to fill their bag with discarded tissue paper wins, they will make sure every scrap is picked up from your lounge in order to win lol!0

Definitely go for the chocolate dressing up game. I had a party for about 10 8-14 yr old girls and they are still talking about that one. Obviously, just use SP choc for about 30p per bar.
Another almost free one is to divide the kids into 2 teams, give each team a newspaper and a roll of sellotape, They have to dress one of the team up just using the paper. Great fun and you'd be surprised at what they come up with.Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These
(he points to some plastic cows on the table) are very small; those (pointing at some cows out of the window) are far away...:D:D
