faulty goods, any chance of a refund?

Options
i wonder if any one can help me please.
i brought a Dolce Gusto coffee machine on the 30th Dec 2011 from Argos when they were on offer for 59.99

Today i tried to use it but found that its not working.
it seems like the motor in it is not working at all
( its one of those pod machine type of things)
i have looked for the reciept every where but cannot find it.
any idea what i can do? will argos even repair it as i have no proof of purchase?
i have looked on my bank statement (on line) and it shows that on 30th Dec i made a purchace at Argos for 59.99 but it does not show it was for a coffee machine.
help needed please
credit card bill. £0.00
overdraft £0.00

Your proof of purchase is your bank statement, this is sufficient.

I imagine after such a short time Argos will just replace it outright.

As above. Usually the only time you run into trouble using a bank statement is if you bought several items. And (again as above) all that is required to enforce your rights under SoGA is proof of purchase.

Let us know how you get on :)

  • thank you arcon and unholyangel for replying.
the trouble is that i only do online banking and do not have access to a printer.( so couldnt show argo a bank statement)
However all is not lost. i phoned up Argos and explaned what had happened and they said that i could just bring the coffee maker back to the store where i brought it from and seen as how it so recent the store would have a record of it.
They even reserved me a new one.
However they also said that i would be only be able to get a replacement or gift vouchers not my money back.
which is fine by me as all i want is a working coffee machine.
( i had to have instant this moring ewwww)

That sounds like good service to me.

I imagine the reason they won't offer a refund is because you don't have proof of purchase, otherwise I believe their policy is 28 days. Hopefully all will go smoothly instore and problem solved :)

Most local libraries offer free internet access to members (30 mins or 1 hour free each day). Some libraries also offer non members a free 30 minute session, or charge a small fee (my local library charges non members £1 for an hour on the computer). You can use this service to print out anything you need (my local rates are 10p for B/W prints or 50p for colour).

I've used this service several times to print out anything I need (including bank statements).

Indeed, if you don't take in a receipt or other proof of purchase then
they will only refund in vouchers, providing they can track the purchase
on their systems, or the packaging is marked with the argos item numbers etc.

But the 28 days refunds is only for 'change of mind' faulty goods you
can return anytime within 12 months, and Ive found argos usually replace /
refund without any hassle for lower value items, for higher value thing they
will probably opt to repair which they have the right to choose.
