I think these handwash systems are a rip-off, because they only work with their brand of handwash (very expensive, and you miss out on all the great bogof offers from other brands).

Years ago I bough one of these (not at this price though )
and found that I was using much more soap because I normally squirt only a few drops, and with that one even the lowest setting was too much
I've seen the new ones on the market, I just waned to warn people that they may end up costing them a lot more than normal handwash (some people will even say 'what's wrong with using normal soap?'
Also antibacterial stuff is another rip off, in normal circumstances it's not not needed, doesn't bring any benefit, it's all psychological.

I left out the best bit, this is what I purchased (the dettol one was not out yet)
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Simplehuman-ST1008-Sensor-Pump-Black/dp/B004GVDN62/ref=sr_1_1?s=kitchen&ie=UTF8&qid=1325885478&sr=1-1

(but as I said not at this price, and I don't recommend it anyway, just using as an example of dispensers that make you spend more money).

Also even if you get them to use less soap, you'd be stuck using a very expensive brand, while if you shop wisely you never even have to pay full price for the ordinary handwash.
  • Sorry but I don't understand why we need these things.
We grew up with a bit of soap near the sink - yes I do prefer a pump thing myself.
As long as you give your taps a wash now and then (dirty hands and all that) you shouldn't have a problem whatever you use.
Mind you I was chuffed to get a wacking great bottle of aloevera type stuff in lidlt for 99p.
    Good find though OP

Unless you have a non touch tap ive never understood how a non touch hand dispencer would be any good. Anyway, great offer if you use the product. I just usually get the tesco 55p anti bacterial for the kitchen and carex (on offer) for the bathroom Got bodyshop hemp just now though as i got a £15 bodyshop giftcard in a magazine! Soap bars dry out my skin but always have one in the soap dish for guests if they like.

We have to have one because of allergies, and can only buy ones for sensitive skin, so it costs me more, but you can get them very cheap nowadays. Value brands are 38p for a 500ml bottle. Lidl also do them at low price.

The first link in post 3 is one way, then there are others you can view from there, most prise the cap off with a flat head screwdriver.

There is one which uses a syringe by removing the plunger, inserting it in to the bottle, filling it then squeezing the bottle to get the liquid in to it.
