Trying to connect Nintendo DSi to internet with wireless connection

Hi Folks

I am trying to connect my daughter’s Nintendo DSi to the internet at home. I have a wireless connection which is provided by Virgin media.

However, every time I attempt to connect, the following 2 messages come up on the screens of the DSi –

On the top screen, the message says A security key is needed to connect to this access point.

The bottom screen says Unable to connect to the access point. Check that the correct security key has been entered. Error code 05111-1.

I am not very technical and it appears that there is something wrong with the security key. I don’t even know if my daughter entered the security key in the first place or where to get it from!

Can someone be kind enough to guide me into how to connect to the internet or provide me with a link which gives a step by step guide?

Thanks in advance for your response.

  • your wireless router should have a key. however, if it is secured with WPA2 you may not be able to connect (i seem to recall)
otherwise, the router should have a key and someone (whoever set it up) will know what/where this is. I suspect.
    Friendly greeting!

I am trying to connect my daughter’s Nintendo DSi to the internet at home. I have a wireless connection which is provided by Virgin media.

I tried last Christmas (2010) and on and off since then, I've never managed it.

We did manage to connect 2 DS's together though.

I've had my modem and router replaced with a new all in one from Virgin and still no joy.

If you manage it let us know how you did it. I was told by someone at Virgin media it couldn't be done.

We have 3 DSi's connected using WPA2-PSK. The older DS's would only use WEP. I seem to remember having to input the key in hex instead of the usual characters, but that may have been because the password uses characters not available on the DSi.

ive never got a dsi or ds to connect to my router unless i set my router to open/no encryption this isnt ideal but as long as you change it back to secured afterwards it shouldnt matter to much espically as theres not much on the dsi shop and the internet on it is rubbish compared to a computer anyway!!
