Economy 7 Via Moneysupermarket

Hi all,

In Sept/Oct 2011 I switched to EDF from nPower via moneysupermarket.

At the time, all of the details were available on screen and the tariff I chose was a non E7 tariff quoting elec cost of something like 9.6p/kWh.

Paperwork that I have from EDF describes the tariff name as 'Fixed s@ver v2' (for both Gas & Electric supplies) however I can't find any resource online that lists the actual tariff rates.

Looking at my first bill, it appears that my electricity tariff is on an E7 basis at 12.72p peak / 5.15p offpeak. I've calculated my usage at the 9.6p rate and it would work out around £30 cheaper on the standard rate for this bill - approx £12/mo.. not loads, but still..

My EDF online account now describes the tariff as 'Fixed s@ver v2 E7'.

I would ring and query this, but the thing is I don't have any paperwork/evidence of what the rates/costs were when I signed up - it was all done online.

My questions to you good people:
  1. Am I obliged to take an E7 tariff if just because I have an E7 meter on the side of my house?
  2. Who should I take this up with? I signed up based on the info that Moneysupermarket presented to me, but I no longer have this and it isn't available on their site any more.
  3. When should I expect the £20 cashback promised by MSM? Do they send out a cheque?

Cheers

  • Like you I switched to edf from nPower but mine was done through energyhelpline who paid direct to my bank account about 8 weeks after the edf start date.

I have been having a battle with edf trying to get them to accept that I should be on a single rate tariff though I have an E7 meter but it looks like I'm not going to be able to get them to change their minds. I did not realise that I was being charged for Economy 7 until I got the first bill about 5 months after the supply with them commenced and they insist that a day/night meter means E7 tariff.

They will change the meter free of charge and put me on a single rate tariff but will not adjust my bills and backdate it. I am currently over £60 worse off because of this.

One final comment when I contacted them through the website it took 16 working days to get a response not the 10 days they promised and as each day passes it is costing me more.

The EDF FS v2 rates are shown on all the major comp sites. But it won't come up as an 'new' tariff as it no longer available.
The system has detected your dual rate meter and automatically allocated you to a E7 tariff. Ask EDF to move you onto a single rate and combine the readings, or to switch your meter over FOC.

You appear to have hit the nail on the head with your question 1.
Some suppliers will supply single rate tariff even if you have a dual rate meter, others will not. EDF is one that will not.

The lesson learned here is to ensure you check with the supplier first if you are hoping to purchase a single rate tariff when you have a dual rate meter.

In response to your other numbered questions:

    2. EDF. They will offer to change the meter for you if you still wish a single rate tariff.
