CTC/WTC - Should we write to confirm correct amount?

It seems like WE are supposed to know if any Tax Credit Awards are correct. In that case, should we be photocopying the award notice and sending it back with a letter asking 'Can you confirm this award correct before I start spending the money?'

I have had problems with 'overpayments' even though I have informed the Tax Credit Office of every change in circumstance and, wrongly assumed the award was correct. I wonder how many replies would be received saying 'Yes, your reward is correct and you are ok to spend the money without us coming after you to get it all back again!' And would any replies stand up in court should we find ourselves there?

Frustrating and stressful times we are all in!
